Student Pranks

Mission: 1. Year One
Location: Dorm Area Hallway

Kai hid just inside the corner of the room for the boy's dorm. He had noticed on his first day that there were fresh flowers kept in the hallway. His ability to control water had sharpened over the last week as he worked with the various teachers, today though he had a different target in mind. Things had gotten a little stale around RidgeHaven Manor and he was going to spice them up.

He slowly twisted his fingers and raised them, and then watched as a perfect ball of water lofted out of the vase and hung warily just below the ceiling. As soon as he saw a student clear the corner, he released the water that hovered above them.

"Chikushô!"

A most unbecoming phrase for a young Japanese woman, but her elders were not there to scold her. Besides, no one wanted to be hit in the head with a water balloon. At least, that's what it felt like. Makeup running down her face, she looked around for a potential culprit. Feeling no plastic remnants of a balloon in her lavender hair, she began to suspect who it might've been.

Kai laughed as he stepped out of his hiding place, "I... I'm sor..." he stuttered as he tried holding back his laughter long enough to speak. "Let me help you" he managed to say as he moved his fingers. Slowly the water that had fallen lofted up off of the floor and was forming back into a ball, along with some of the water on the girl's clothes and hair.

Student pranks. Not exactly common in the schools of Sakura’s youth but also not unheard of. Nothing worth being angry about. “It’s fine,” she said, though she decided to play it aloof. “I mean, I suppose it’s fine. You’ll find out, won’t you?”

"I guess I will," he said quietly as he tried his hands on his Hawaiin Shirt. Great the last thing he needed was to get on a teacher's radar.

Sakura walked off, knowing what she had to do next.

**Later**

It hadn’t taken much effort. As a teacher, she had access to the dorms; in case of emergency, she would need to be able to make sure everyone was accounted for.

Crucially, Sakura Tanikawa had to make sure the students knew she could give as good as she got.

So with a simple touch, Professor Tanikawa made Kai’s digital radio alarm clock actually only play one song: the latest hit by that boy band all the pre-teen girls were obsessed with these days. Loudly. The boys’ dorms would wake to some pre-teen heartthrobs.

The opening notes of "Step by Step" blasted through the speakers in his alarm clock, he hated New Kids on The Block, as he reached over and hit the snooze button. When the alarm didn't stop he got out of bed and tried hitting snooze and turning down the volume but nothing worked. The other boys in the room began hollering him and throwing objects at him before he unplugged it.

A short while later, Sakura was supervising the dining room at breakfast. She sauntered over to the table where Kai sat with his friends. “How is everyone this morning?” she asked cheerfully. While waiting for them to answer, she hummed “Step by Step” to herself.

Kai groggily looked at the cheerful teacher and tried to appear cool as he replied, "Next time can we get something cool like Metallica?"

“Where’s the fun in that?” she asked sweetly. “Just remember to watch the pranks, and that I give as good as I get.”

"Yes, Miss Tanikawa," Kai said as he finished his bowl Count Chocula cereal. "I'll be more careful next time."

“See that you do,” Sakura replied. “But before that…want to help me get Miss McMillen?”

"That would be gnarly Miss T," Kai said with a sly grin. The school year just got more interesting now that he had a teacher to team up with for some epic pranks.
